Natalie Shapero “Work Wife” 7PM Wednesday April 4 West Wing NHIOP

Poet Natalie Shapero, author of Hard Child and Professor of the Practice of Poetry at Tufts University, will be at NHIOP Wednesday April 4 to share her latest project, "Work Wife," is a sequence of poems that explores demoralization, dehumanization, and punishment in the free market economy, with specific attention to how labor relationships mimic, disrupt, and contort family and community relationships. Many of these poems address the question of whether it is ever possible to have a private life separate and apart from one's status as an "employee." Her poetry “invite[s] the reader to leap into previously unconsidered lives and viewpoints while also recognizing in those lives and viewpoints certain elements of human experience that are common to us all. Essentially, literature can argue for the humanity of each and every person.”
