1.The Modern period refers to the period of the Enlightenment and Scientific Revolution, roughly from 1600 to 1800.

2. Modernism refers to the basic idea of the Enlightenment: that the scientic method provided an absolute standpoint from which human beings could escape the limitations of their nature and achieve objective knowledge of reality.
