Highlights


1844- Born in Saxony, Prussia (now Germany) on October 15, 1844

1864- Enters University of Bonn to study theology and classical philology, planning to be a minister.

1865- Transfers to University of Leipzig and studies classical philology. Reads Schopenhauer.
1867-68- Enters Military, and is injured in 1868. Meets Richard Wagner
1869-70- Graduates becomes professor of philology at U. of Basel, enlists is army during Franco-Prussian War.
1872- Publication of The Birth of Tragedy.

1878- Human, All too Human published.

1879- Resigns from University post because of illness.

1882- Travelling and Living in Italy. Begins in May a relationship with Lou Andreas-Salomé and old friend Paul Ree which will end in October.

1883-1885 Parts I-III of Thus Sprach Zarathustra published. Part Iv published privately.

1886-1889 period of intense productivity .Beyond Good and Evil published.Toward a Genealogy of Morals is published. The Wagner Case: A Musician's Problem is published. The Antichrist: A Curse upon Christianity; The Dionysos Dithyrambs; The Twilight of the Idols; and Ecce Homo are written, but will all be published later.

1889- Collapses in Street in Turin Italy and after waking has lost his mental capacities, presumably to to advanced stages of an syphilis infection.

1890-1897- Cared for by his mother in Naumberg. Sister Elisabeth returns.

1892-Part IV of Zarathustra published openly.

1897- Mother dies. Elisabeth assumes care.

1900- Nietzsche dies August 25, 1900.

1900-1904- Elisabeth publishes his notes under title  Will to Power.

1908-  Ecce Homo published.
